I was given an opportunity to impact all our lives in a meaningful way. Yours, mine, theirs.

I’ll start as a Head of Product at ‘Jua.ai’ today. (Jan 2023)

As a child, I had many different scenarios in my mind about how I could save others and be a superheroine. All the more I'm excited to share with all of you that I'm entrusted with helping to build something that aims to do just that...

But a dusty job title does not convey the story behind it:

A couple of months ago Andreas, CEO of Jua approached me on LinkedIn saying

"Hey Leah, we're looking for someone to lead the product at Jua, let's have a look at the job profile"

I looked into Jua. A weather and climate tech startup in Switzerland.

Hmm.

Well, the area is exciting but there are a lot of them and I don't have professional experience in the domain.

Then I learned about the working product behind it, a twin of the earth's atmosphere. Based on Machine & Deep Learning.

A disruption in the current weather market.

"It cannot be done." That's what Marvin, founder of Jua heard over and over. He did not accept it. He built it anyway.

I started to look closer. Like any opportunity in life, it's almost like a VC being pitched. "Here's why we think your time is worth this..."

It's not about delivering what the market has for less money. It can already do that...
It's neither about doing it much more precisely than what the market has to offer. It can already do that...
It's about having a profound impact on people's lives by bringing it to them. The positive impact we can have in people's lives with actionable predictions cannot be overstated.

We help conserve our most valuable resources to get out of the biggest crisis we face on a macro and micro level.

We don't drag people out of burning buildings:

We empower those that are in danger by warning them ahead of time. We optimize the processes of those that produce our food. We reduce waste in energy production and trade. We give predictable weather forecasts to those countries that can't afford the status quo.

Those are big words and I'm a realist. In order to drive real change in the world you need to have economic leverage and I was skeptical at first whether this can be done.

I take this bet. Now, I believe in the case. I believe in the talented people building it. I believe that this product will disrupt a highly commoditized market with traditions that are overdue to be broken.

There is the almost insurmountable problem, a promise from a genius product and an experienced team. And so much passion...

I won't be the hero though. I will give it my all to enable all our actual superheroes to build the product from the background to drive all of it.

What a privilege. Let's innovate, learn and shake things up. Product-led, empowered, and meaningful✊
